During Extreme Heat, Don’t Set Your T-Stat Too High While You’re Away
Setting your t-stat’s away temperature too high during a heatwave can cause your AC to run continuously when you return. This not only puts significant stress on your AC but also burns through any energy savings you had hoped to achieve.

Check Your System’s Filter
A clean filter allows for efficient airflow and optimal cooling performance. This not only helps maintain comfortable indoor temperatures, but also helps prevent system strain and reduces the chance of a breakdown during peak usage.

Cook Outside When You Can
Running the stove and oven during extreme heat makes your whole system work harder. Whenever you’re able, cook your meals outside on the grill. If you’re unable to cook outside, use low heat producing appliances like an air fryer or slow cooker.

“Per WI Code SPS 322.40 (2), cooling systems in SE WI have a design temperature of 90-95°F.
For example, this means that when the outdoor temperature reaches 95°F, a cooling system operating at full capacity should be able to maintain an indoor temperature of 75°F.
My tip to homeowners is when you know there is a heatwave approaching, precooling your home before it arrives can be a great way to help maintain indoor comfort and reduce stress on your system.”

The Role of Humidity in Keeping Pests at Bay
|
Did you know that humidity levels in your home can invite unwanted pests like insects? Keeping your indoor humidity between 40-60% can make a significant difference in maintaining a pest-free home.
Many insects such as silverfish and centipedes crave damp, humid conditions. Humid environments create an ideal breeding ground and increases the food supply for many common household pests.
Using whole-home dehumidifiers can help manage these levels effectively, ensuring your home remains comfortable and pest-free. Remember, a balanced humidity level contributes to a happy, healthy home!

Thank you for reading! As we wrap up July’s Bulletin, we’ll leave you with a couple of fun facts about July 9th in history:
July 9th, 1947:
77 years ago today, The Roswell Incident made local headlines, sparking the first conspiracy theories and public concern about UFOs and flying saucers.
July 9th, 1981:
On this day, a significant moment in both Nintendo’s history and video game history occurred. Nintendo’s arcade classic Donkey Kong was officially released, introducing the world to Mario (originally known as Jumpman) and Donkey Kong.
It became Nintendo’s most successful video game at the time. Without it, many of the beloved Mario and Donkey Kong classics we know today might not exist.
